Competition of Lively And Quick-Witted Between Girl’s And Boy’s Teams.
This is a very interesting
competition, which helps students to learn more about the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Northern Ireland, improve their knowledge of English and
demonstrate their creative skills. Organization and holding such competition
demand from the students a lot of preparatory work..
Every team consists of 5
pupils of the 9th and 10th forms. They invited some pupils
of the 6th form.
Before the competitions the
members of every team were given country specific material about Great Britain .
They learned songs, poems, proverbs, words and etc.
Every team had to make
computer slide shows “What are girls/boys made of?”.
The school assembly stage is
decorated with a hand-made map of the United
Kingdom and Northern Ireland . There are placards on the stage “Who knows more about Britain ?”
and “The best will win today!”

Dear friends! We are very
glad to see you in our school assembly hall! In some minutes you will see a competition between two teams. I’m
Olena Grygorivna, an English teacher of Luganka secondary school. This is my
assistant Margarita. She will be my interpreter. She will help people who are
not very good in English.

Poor little ladybird
Flew, flew, flew.
- Next poem is about sunflower:
Sunflower, sunflower,
Standing straight and tall,

You’re the tallest flower of them all!

When your seeds fall to the ground,

By the squirrels they’ll be found!
- Let’s say «Thank you» to our flowers for wonderful poems. Now, let’s named other flowers – a cornflower, a dandelion, a rose.
- I prepare some riddles about flowers. So, listen very attentively:
• It is the first flower to pop up above the ground in spring (a snowdrop);
• You can see its blue head in the cornfields in summer (a cornflower);
• When it blooms in spring, it looks like the Sun ( a dandelion);
• It can be of different colours, but it is always the queen of flowers ( a rose);
• It is spring flower, it can be different colours (a tulip);
• It is summer flower, it’s red colour (a poppy);
- OK, it was a very easy task for you! Well done! Now, tell me, please, how many seasons are there in the year? What season has no flowers? That’s right, it’s winter. All other seasons are rich in flowers. Let’s have a competition. There are two baskets. (Учитель бере по черзі кошики, на яких написано : «Spring basket», «Summer basket»
- Let’s pick up flowers. Put spring flowers into one basket and summer flowers into the other.
- Let’s check, so, a snowdrop, a tulip, a dandelion, a narcissus go to the spring basket and a poppy, a daisy, a sunflower, a cornflower, a rose go to the summer basket.
- You know, kids, an absent-minded artist came to our school today. He brought different pieces from 4 postcards and asked us to help him to make these postcards and to read what is written in them. Are you ready to help?( з іншої сторони малюнка написано):

На інших листівках замість слова «snowdrop» написані слова: tulip, narcissus, dandelion.
