Competition of Lively And Quick-Witted Between Girl’s And Boy’s Teams.

This is a very interesting competition, which helps students to learn more about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, improve their knowledge of English and demonstrate their creative skills. Organization and holding such competition demand from the students a lot of preparatory work..
Every team consists of 5 pupils of the 9th and 10th forms. They invited some pupils of the 6th form.
Before the competitions the members of every team were given country specific material about Great Britain. They learned songs, poems, proverbs, words and etc.
Every team had to make computer slide shows “What are girls/boys made of?”.
The school assembly stage is decorated with a hand-made map of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. There are  placards on the stage “Who knows more about Britain?” and “The best will win today!”

 A boy’s song.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da.

Desmond has a borrow in the market place
Molly is a singer in the band
Desmond says to Molly: “Girl, I like your face”.
And Molly says  this as she takes him by the hand.
Refrain:

Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on bra,
La-la, how the life goes on.
Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on bra.

Desmond takes a trolley to the jeweller’s store,
Buys a twenty carat golden ring.
Takes it back to Molly waiting at the door
And as he gives it to her she begins to sing.

Refrain
Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on bra,
La-la, how the life goes on.
Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on bra.

In a couple of years they have built a home,
Sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of  Desmond and Molly Jones.
Happy ever after in the market place
Desmond lets the children lend a hand,
Molly stays at home and does her pretty face.
And in the evening she still sings it with the band.

Refrain:
Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on bra,
La-la, how the life goes on.
Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, life goes on bra.

And if you want some fun
Take Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da.

A girl’s song.

“Sunny”

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
The dark days are gone, and the bright days are here,
My Sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny, one so true, I love you.

Sunny, thank you for the sunshine bouquet,
Sunny, thank you for the love you brought my way,
You gave to me your all and all,
Now I feel ten feet tall.
Sunny, one so true, I love you.

Sunny, thank you for the truth you let me see.
Sunny, thank you for the facts from A to C
My life was torn like a windblown sand
And the rock was formed when you held my hand
Sunny, one so true, I love you.

Sunny, thank you for the smile upon your face.
Sunny, thank you for the gleam that shows it’s grace.
You’re my spark of nature’s fire,
You’re my sweet complete desire.
Sunny, one so true, I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you.

Dora: Oh, dear!
Nora: Now look what you have done! Good Lord!
Dora: I haven’t done anything. I wish you stop shouting, if you’d left me alone, I’d have been perfectly all right.
Nora: oh, give me patience. If you’d gone straight on, you’d have  run into that lorry instead of just that tree.
Dora: N, I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t have run into anything. If you hadn’t shouted and made me nervous, I could have pass him quite easily.
Nora: Why on earth did you ask me to teach you?
Dora: I didn’t ask. You said it was cheaper than going to driving school, and you promised to be patient
Nora: I wish I could be. But there is a limit to anyone’s patience. I wish I’d never agreed to teach you. I’d never have had if I’d known how bad you’d be.
Dora: I can’t be very good because I’m new at it. I wish you’d be more understanding.
Nora: That’s what I’m trying to be. But I do wish you’d pass your driving test before the car is completely broken.

P.: You are driving on the wrong side.
V.: But you said I was driving on the right side.
P.: That’s right. You are on the right, and that’s wrong.
V.: Well. If right is wrong, I am right when I’m on the wrong side. So why did you stop me?
P.: My dear sir, you must keep to the left. The right side is the left.
V.: It’s like a looking-glass. I’II try to remember. Well, I want to go to Bellwood. Will you tell me the way?
P.: Certainly. At the end of this road, turn left.
V.: Now let me think. Turn left. In England left is right, and right is wrong. Am I right?
P.: You’ll be right if you turn left! But if you turn right, you’ll be wrong.
V.: Thank you. Now I understand.
Do you?

2. Хід заходу:

- Dear pupils, I am glad to see you today in our contest dedicated to flowers. You know that today is the last day of winter, and we all have a little spring mood. To increase it, I propose today to talk about flowers, because very soon, when the snow come down, first flowers appear. So, meet our pretty flowers: snowdrop, poppy, tulip, daisy, lily, sunflower, narcissus, dandelion (
- Good morning, dear flowers. Glad to see you today with us!
- Thank you for your invitation!
- So, the first flowers, which appear in spring are snowdrops. Let's congratulate our first snowdrops:
Oh snowdrops, I think that
You came in the night,
In only your nighties
And that's why you're white.
I think that you're smiling,
But still feel too shy
To lift your sweet faces
To smile at the sky.
Melinda Kennedy

- Thank you, snowdrop, for your beautiful poem! And now, one more spring flower is a tulip. Let’s listen a poem about this flower.
The flitty-pretty tulip was thirsty
and needed drink
And I ran into the house and got
it from the sink
Then I poured the water on it
to make it look nice
So, the flitty-pretty tulip would have
sold for a pretty price!
Bethany Dubitz
- Thank you! Now, the poem about dandelion.
Dandelion
LITTLE soldier with the golden helmet,
O What are you guarding on my lawn?
You with your green gun
And your yellow beard,
Why do you stand so stiff?
There is only the grass to fight!

Hilda Conkling
- Thank you for your nice poem, and now listen about summer flowers. The first our guest is a poppy.
The sun is bright
The day feels right
Poppies in bloom
More flowers soon
Spring is hear
Summer is near.
- Very nice poem, thank you! Now, a daisy wants tell us something:
Little blue daises
In my flowerbed,
First came the ladybird
Red, red, red.
"Fly away ladybird,”
Said the daisy blue.
Poor little ladybird
Flew, flew, flew.
- Next poem is about sunflower:
Sunflower, sunflower,
Standing straight and tall,
Sunflower, sunflower,
You’re the tallest flower of them all!
Sunflower, sunflower,
When your seeds fall to the ground,
Sunflower, sunflower,
By the squirrels they’ll be found!
- Let’s say «Thank you» to our flowers for wonderful poems. Now, let’s named other flowers – a cornflower, a dandelion, a rose.
- I prepare some riddles about flowers. So, listen very attentively:
• It is the first flower to pop up above the ground in spring (a snowdrop);
• You can see its blue head in the cornfields in summer (a cornflower);
• When it blooms in spring, it looks like the Sun ( a dandelion);
• It can be of different colours, but it is always the queen of flowers ( a rose);
• It is spring flower, it can be different colours (a tulip);
• It is summer flower, it’s red colour (a poppy);
- OK, it was a very easy task for you! Well done! Now, tell me, please, how many seasons are there in the year? What season has no flowers? That’s right, it’s winter. All other seasons are rich in flowers. Let’s have a competition. There are two baskets. (
Spring basket», «Summer basket»
- Let’s pick up flowers. Put spring flowers into one basket and summer flowers into the other.
- Let’s check, so, a snowdrop, a tulip, a dandelion, a narcissus go to the spring basket and a poppy, a daisy, a sunflower, a cornflower, a rose go to the summer basket.
- You know, kids, an absent-minded artist came to our school today. He brought different pieces from 4 postcards and asked us to help him to make these postcards and to read what is written in them. Are you ready to help?(
One snowdrop, two snowdrops,
Three snowdrops, four,
Five snowdrops, six snowdrops,
Seven snowdrops, more!
- OK, thank you very much for your work. Let’s count our points.
